Perry has the father of actor Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. On the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as as seen through flashback) her mother portrayed Jackie Harris in two of Perry's initial TV roles. The parents of her didn't want her to take on acting roles until she was an adult fearing the effect of stress. Perry states that she did not want to be an actor in high school but decided to take up acting as a social activity while at Northwestern University when she switched to the university from Boston University. Perry managed to get tiny TV roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent when she finished her degree. The feeling of homelessness, however, brought her back to California and she returned working in the stage. In 2013, she appeared in The Other Place on Broadway along with her mother. Perry was in the show with the father of her character Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 on The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry played a part in nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. In 2017, Perry had an appearance on ABC's political thriller Scandal with her father. That same year she played a young character based on Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) as her mother as a young version. Despite having a family connection to the character she received the role via an audition.
